Rajasthan stands out as one of India’s leading destinations for medical education. Renowned for its rich history, cultural diversity, and robust educational framework, the state provides a solid foundation for those seeking to pursue a career in medicine. Jaipur, the capital city, serves as the central hub for academic and healthcare institutions across Rajasthan.
The state has emerged as a key player in India’s medical education landscape, offering a wide array of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Entry into the MBBS program in Rajasthan relies on the scores achieved in the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).. Qualified candidates must participate in the Rajasthan NEET UG Counselling, organized by the Department of Medical Education, Government of Rajasthan. The MBBS course spans 5.5 years, comprising 4.5 years of academic learning followed by a mandatory 1-year internship.
Whether you’re aiming for a government seat, a management quota seat, or even an NRI seat in a government or private medical college in Rajasthan, participating in the state NEET counselling is compulsory. This also applies to postgraduate (PG) medical courses—there is no provision for direct admission to MBBS or PG courses in Rajasthan outside the official counselling process.
Rajasthan offers numerous opportunities for students seeking to pursue a career in MBBS. The state hosts a combination of both government and private medical colleges. Admissions into government medical colleges tend to be more competitive due to lower tuition fees and the quality of education, leading to consistently higher cut-off scores for these institutions.
As of the 2025 academic session, a total of 4,859 MBBS seats are available across 30 government and 12 private medical colleges in the state. Rajasthan also houses a prestigious AIIMS institute in Jodhpur, further enhancing the state’s reputation for high-quality medical training.
The cost of pursuing MBBS in Rajasthan depends mainly on the type of institution. Government medical colleges are renowned for their affordable fee structures and are ideal for students seeking a value-based education. In contrast, private medical colleges generally charge higher tuition fees, often justified by the provision of additional amenities, modern infrastructure, and enhanced learning facilities.

In total, Rajasthan offers 5,425 MBBS seats across all its medical colleges. This includes 3,405 seats in government medical colleges and 2,050 seats in private institutions.
Within the government quota, 15% of the seats are reserved for the All India Quota (AIQ), while the remaining 85% are allocated to the Rajasthan State Quota. Additionally, 24 seats in government colleges are reserved for nominees of the Government of India, and these are filled by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi. Furthermore, 453 MBBS seats in government colleges are allotted under the NRI quota.

Rajasthan follows a reservation-based system for distributing seats in MBBS admissions. Out of the total seats available in government medical colleges, 15% are reserved for the All India Quota (AIQ), while the remaining 85% fall under the State Quota.
The All India Quota includes reserved seats for categories such as SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwD candidates, as well as students from government schools, based on central reservation policies. On the other hand, the State Quota is primarily meant for residents of Rajasthan and includes provisions for various local categories and social groups.
Students aspiring for an MBBS seat in Rajasthan must understand this quota structure, as it directly affects their eligibility, counselling choice, and seat allocation during the admission process.
All India Quota (AIQ) – 15%
The All India Quota (AIQ) reserves 15% of the total MBBS and BDS seats in government medical and dental colleges across states for students from all over India. This quota system is designed to promote equal opportunity and fair representation for candidates regardless of their home state. Through AIQ, students can compete for seats outside their state, encouraging diversity and national-level merit-based selection.
